My pastor at church asked if he could borrow my Prowler for the weekend.
I had no issues with this and told him yes. While he was driving in San Jose, a Police officer decided to give him a fix it ticket because the officer thought the exhaust on my Prowler was too loud. I think the Police officer was having a bad day. I then was faced with a delema of going back to my stock exhaust setup or come up with some other solution to tone down my exhaust. John Davies gives me a call and begins to tell me about glass packs a muffler guy in Mountain View said would lower the tone some. I did not care and jumped on this opportunity right away. I needed to have my ticket signed the next day which was Wednesday. I had to take my Prowler to the CHP to have an officer of the law hear my exhaust and determine whether or not the sound was toned down to sign it . I did not want to take the chance of the officer refusing to sign my ticket and did not want to lie about it either. So, I went to John Davies recommendation and had the glass packs installed. I think after hearing them awhile, I like them. The tone, toned down a little about 2 db's. I have a decibel meter and measured my exhaust change with glass packs and John Davies exhaust without the glass packs. John Davies and I have the same exhaust setup until now. The real high end growl at around 5000 rpms has been reduced. My cabin resonance has also changed and appears to have moved further back out of my cabin. The resonance used to be at around 1400 to 2400 rpms and seems to slightly come into the cabin at around 2000 to 3000 rpms. Not as strong as before. The thing that drove me nuts was, the officer asked me to rev up my Prowler to 1500 rpms to determine whether the exhaust was loud or not. Based on this information, I would have passed the decibel test without the glass packs. I asked the officer what was concidered too loud and he could not tell me even after looking at the rule book. It pretty much comes down to the officers discreation. This really did not come across very good to me. Oh well, I like my new sound and will keep it. Enjoy my experiance. |
